CAPSTONE PROJECT
RESHAM
Resham is a three-piece ensemble featuring a tunic, skirt and a shawl that captures the essence of Pakistani clothing known as the shalwar kameez. In Urdu (the native language of Pakistan) silk is known as Resham.
My capstone is inspired by the enriched cultural tapestry of my homeland while taking a different approach to the craft and creation of garments. Unlike traditional shalwar kameez, I seamlessly fused traditional aesthetics with contemporary design by applying intricate techniques, such as block printing, eco printing, silk painting and embellishing on silks. Drawing inspiration from the diverse flora of Pakistan, I incorporated botanical elements into my work.
