Sara Carlisle

BIO

Sara Carlisle is following her dream of becoming an artist, after retiring as a scientist in the Canadian nuclear industry. She discovered botanical painting in the early 2000’s and very much enjoyed it, but then fell in love with glass and began the journey that led to her becoming a glass blower. In her current practice she marries the two, using high-fired enamels to draw plants and flowers on blown glass vessels.

Sara is resigned to an itinerant lifestyle if she is to continue to blow glass, and divides her time between her home in Deep River and Oakville.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

THE JOY OF SMALL THINGS

Although the world can be a grim place, there are always small things that can bring us joy and lighten our hearts. Through my work, I try to share some of the things that bring me joy: tiny wildflowers that invade our gardens, patterns of stem and leaf and branch. My canvases are blown glass vessels painted with high-fired enamels that combine art and functionality in works that can be used and enjoyed. I hope that my work can bring as much joy to others, as it has to me in the making.
