Jaxx Bonnamie
BIO
Jaxx Bonnamie is a multimedia artist from London, Ontario. With a background in illustration and printmaking, Jaxx first began practicing ceramics in 2018. His pieces combine sculptural and graphic elements to create striking pieces that explore themes of gender, sexuality, and identity. Jaxx seeks to amplify trans and queer voices through his practice.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
NOT QUITE HUMAN
I often thought myself something non-human. Some creature in a person's skin. I was haunted by an ever present sense of unbelonging. Like I didn't exist in the same realm as everyone else. Everyone else who understood all the rules. Who said the right things. And knew all the secrets to being a person. My identity was one shaped by uncertainty.
My work explores themes of identity and belonging.
My work makes the other beautiful and confrontational.
My work explores the dehumanizing way I am expected to expose every corner of myself to justify my existence.
My work celebrates the creature.
It explores my struggles to be understood.
