Lindsey Ainsworth

BIO

Lindsey Ainsworth has always loved making things. Her work tends to be focused on meeting tangible needs in the most beautiful and sustainable way possible. Although she has worked with a variety of materials including textiles, ceramics, and glass, wood is one she has always come back to. She decided to pursue this interest further by studying in the Honours Bachelor of Craft and Design program as a Furniture major at Sheridan College. Lindsey’s Capstone project explores two topics dear to her heart: community and quality furniture. She would like to continue investigating this intersection in the future.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

THE ONLY SOLUTION IS LOVE

The title for this project comes from a quote by Dorothy Day: “We have all known the long loneliness and we have learned that the only solution is love and that love comes with community.” In my desire to explore how furniture can help cultivate belonging, community, and inclusion, I partnered with non-profit organization Mabelle Arts. Using a co-design model, I engaged with local community members to find out what type of furniture they would like to see in their neighbourhood park. The resulting pieces are my interpretation of what I heard and reflect the community’s values of togetherness, comfort, warmth, and playfulness.
