CAPSTONE PROJECT

VESSELS

The process of coil building is fundamental to my work. My making process is supported by thousands of years of history. Using a slower method of construction, one coil at a time, helps me develop forms and ideas as I work. There is a sense of freedom as the pot grows; any direction is possible, with no restrictions. My pieces are sometimes awkward, with tiny feet or exaggerated proportions; this relates to how I sometimes feel in my own body. In finishing my work, the marks and motifs I apply are based on my curiosity and intuition. I gravitate toward complementary colours and graphic elements. Each spray of colour and brush stroke of glaze influences the next.
