CAPSTONE PROJECT
THIS IS WHERE IT ENDS
When a whale dies, its guts start to decompose. As it deteriorates, gas builds up pressure inside its body. It floats to the surface of the ocean. Eventually, the pressure becomes too much and the carcass explodes. Then it begins to sink. After some time, it reaches the ocean floor. The remains of the whale become a new ecosystem. This new ecosystem is called a whale fall.
This environment, where thousands of living creatures thrive, is only made possible because that whale died. My capstone invites people to think about the invisible structures that make our lives possible.
