He approaches design from a sculptural standpoint and looks to create impressive statement pieces that inspire intrigue and speculation. His work feature bold, high contrasting patterns that inform the structure and fabrication methodologies. This approach lets the overall aesthetics dictate the decorative elements in his work resulting in contemporary pieces that tread the line between art and functionality. While studying at Sheridan College, Kyle Has expanded his repertoire of digital and physical construction techniques, which are featured in his 4th year capstone.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
ERRATIC DESIGN
My work has always walked the line between artistic expression and functional form. Each piece I make is a technical experiment that celebrates a new technique I have become enamored with. It can often be an anxious, messy process full of stress and passion, however, the result is always unique.
Nowhere is that process more evident than in my capstone. The Erratic Modular Series interprets the stoic mass of a fractured boulder as three faceted tables that can be moved around a living room as needed. The varied miter joints, mixed grain patterns, and negative spaces intrigues and invites closer examination. For me, these tables represent the culmination of my woodworking expertise, and play with themes I hope to carry into future designs.
