CAPSTONE PROJECT
OOZING NOUMENA
Oozing Noumena is a series of objects exploring the tensions, harmonies, and unending interplay of chaos and order. This work stemmed from a desire to explore structures of knowledge through materials. I began by thinking about the historical manufacturing of these structures and the distinctions drawn between the real and imagined, possible and impossible. I questioned whether these compartmentalizations we’ve implanted into our collective understanding of the world actually produce a more expansive understanding of it. I understand the need for systematization but was troubled by what had been overlooked or under-considered in all faculties of life (aesthetic, moral, spiritual, empirical, material, etc.) because it sat outside of our ability to comprehend it. Oozing Noumena uses a wide variety of materials to explore interactions between the known and unknowable in different ways, as pattern versus randomness, presence versus absence, containment, and stratification, with the objective of finding new harmonies.
