Clio Windust
BIO
Clio Windust is textile artist working primarily in printing and weaving. She is interested in textiles history, and how textiles relate to other mediums such as film and digital technology. Through exploring these relationships, she hopes to create work that captures the same sense of animation and life created by illuminated images on a screen.

SHADOW MOVES
Weaving is a textile construction technique in which two sets of yarn, the warp and weft, are interlaced at right angles to each other. I am interested in how the geometric structure of weaving can interact with an image, a relationship I will explore through warp printing. This is a process in which an image is printed onto the warp yarns before they are woven. The process of weaving then subtly shifts the image as the individual warp yarns respond differently to the tensioning of the loom.
The distortion of the image through weaving is like the warping of images on a screen; the grid of the fabric mimics the pixilation of digital images and the optical colour mixing creates a similar vibration. This, combined with the luminous quality of the silk yarn I am working with, makes visual reference to film, computers, and the illuminated screen.
