CAPSTONE PROJECT

PARAPET BICYCLE DIVIDER

Parapet is a bicycle barrier conceived through a material exploration in concrete. It intends to improve North American cycling infrastructure by making it safe for all road users through traffic calming, making a more effective use of material than traditional ad-hoc solutions, and providing an aesthetically pleasing, durable, and low maintenance solution for keeping infrastructure safe. The main idea behind Parapet is that it is punctuated, and does not need to be a continuous full wall of concrete to protect the users. This allows for Urban “permeability” for slower traffic such as pedestrians and cyclists, all the while maintaining versatility and adaptivity to urban environments that possess varying uniformity.
