Sophie Harrison
BIO
Sophie is a Toronto-based textile designer who loves mixing colour, pattern and texture. She draws inspiration from music and fashion, which she also immersed in during her spare time. She is currently taking a lot of inspiration from retro styles, such as the bright and bold colours from Miami in the 70’s. She is committed to sustainable textile practices, and loves using recycled fibres and natural dyes.
Sophie lives life in technicolor, believing that colour affects your mood and ideally induces the feeling of joy. Through her work she likes to play with colour and colour-blocking, and mix traditionally bold colours with more somber ones through the use of fabric.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
FLUID LINE
I wanted to create a project that highlights the idea that clothing is a form of self expression. So with that being said I have created a gender fluid collection of 3 campy designs that are inspired by harry styles. Harry styles has been such a huge inspiration to me for so long because of his views on clothing, identity and overall message of just embracing who you are. Each of these three designs are made using silks like organza, velvet and satins to highlight the bodies natural form. While also using techniques like fabrics manipulation and piecing. Taking inspiration from other gender fluid designers and 70’s rock icons.
