CAPSTONE PROJECT
ROCKER 42
Rocker 42 is the outcome of a design process aimed at providing older adults with seating that is elegant, safe and comfortable. I chose to design a rocking chair as a solution as it provides the health benefits and comfort associated with rocking.
With the exception of the sides of the back frame all elements of the rocker were made of curved parts sharing the same 42” radius. These shared elements bring a visual cohesiveness to the rocker. Cane was chosen for the seat and back as it is light and cool while being firm enough to be supportive yet flexible enough to conform to the compound curves of the rocker.
Rocker 42 provided me with an opportunity to continue to hone my craft while challenging and pushing me to further develop and expand my skills as both a maker and designer.
