Rodrigo Somocurcio
BIO
Rodrigo Somocurcio is a Hamilton-based artist and an industrial design student from Sheridan College. Design for Rodrigo means creating objects that are functional but also have an elegant shape and that's the kind of work he strives to design. Rodrigo wants to continue doing more work in model-making which influences and changes a lot through the process of a certain design. He learned that a variety of materiality can have a great influence on how a design is constructed, as he has worked with plastic, wood, and metal. He wants his designs to be useful and also have a beautiful form to them.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
WRIST GUARDIAN
The Wrist Guardian is a product that will support the wrist and still provide flexibility. This glove will protect the hand and prevent/lessen injuries before they become serious such as carpal tunnel. I took an interest in hand pain when I started working at my internship. While working in the workshop one of the floor workers could not keep on carrying with his hands because he said that his wrists could not hold onto any weight due to the repeated lifting he was doing; he started lifting with his forearms so that he could get the rest of his tasks completed.
