Derrick Doucette
BIO
Derrick Doucette is a Toronto based designer and maker focusing on high end furniture, lighting, art pieces and other home décor items. His creations tend to have a darker aesthetic, both in colour and form and maintain a refined, luxurious quality. Using woods such as walnut and maple and often incorporating metal elements, his designs tend to lean towards the eccentric while striving to maintain a level of sophistication and elegance. Inspired by his fondness for the obscure, his aesthetic veers away from contemporary trends while retaining familiar elements of eras past.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
DIVERGENCE
The goal of my capstone project was to create a series of high-end furnishings which incorporate metal elements that have been coloured and textured through various processes. Drawing influence from a variety of sources, the goal will be to carve out my own niche and develop my own unique style. A style which veers away from mainstream trends and strives to strike a balance between the obscure and conventional. To remain recognizable and beautiful while celebrating those empowered by their own sense of individuality. Craftsmanship and uniqueness are going to be the very heart of what I aim to achieve in my final designs with each piece potentially being the first in its own line of products.
