Sam Mansfield
BIO
Sam Mansfield is a craftsperson using their interdisciplinary practice to explore the complexities and pleasures of queer objects. They work in the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. Sam works with the ethos of learning from others, working with others, and sharing knowledge. They hope to create work that can honour the people who they have been lucky enough to learn from.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
TRANSSEXUALS LIVE FOREVER
Transsexuals Live Forever uses screen printing of archival t-shirt graphics to communicate queer histories. The use of patchwork implies the importance of small pieces, and the beauty they hold when they come together. The piece is a celebration of found family, community, and queer homemaking. The couch is a monument to the act of sharing space and time with others.
