Haley Giles
BIO
Haley Giles is an emerging ceramic artist residing in Kitchener, Ontario. She is a recent graduate of Sheridan’s Bachelor of Craft and Design program specializing in Ceramics. She has spent the last five years exploring all natures of ceramic practices to refine her skills and hone in on the ways of working that she finds the most captivating. Through this time, she has developed a passion for slip casting, hand-building and glaze painting. Although still rather new to the world of ceramics, Haley has always pursued artistic avenues in both her leisure time and as a profession.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
DAYDREAM
My work acts as an exploration into the private moments in my life that spur my curiosity, and provide personal joy and amusement. My process includes collecting and recording any personally stimulating elements that I observe, but often there is an unintentional focus on flora, fauna and friendships. I take the components I feel most enthused by and meld them together to create new, surreal scenarios of curiosity. My way of working allows me to reflect on distinctive instances in my life, and find a deeper significance and permanence in the small moments that tend to fade from memory over time. It also keeps me finding ways to stay imaginative and playful within my work, and consequently within my life.
