CAPSTONE PROJECT
BIOLUMINESCENCE
Bioluminescence is a series of works representing my interest in fusing art and science. In this case, I have chosen to create and desk and lamp that draws inspiration from microbiology, specifically the forms and shapes of cellular structures and viruses. My capstone's goal is to make furniture pieces that promote curiosity and a desire to learn. I want to create a comfortable work environment where someone can research different topics that interest them. To do this, I have designed a desk that uses the patterns found within microbiology that both spark interest and provide a suitable working surface. I have also included two lights, one for ambient light and one for task lighting. Overall, these pieces are meant to bridge the gap between two different worlds, art and science, and show how they can work together to make something new.
