CAPSTONE PROJECT
WITH LOVE,
Love is a powerful and transformational force. Inspired by personal lived experiences of love, this work serves as a reminder of love’s importance. In this project I explored what love is, where it comes from, and how it can be shown. “With Love,” is my garden of love; it must be tended to and cared for in order for it to grow. Heart cushions are displayed with embroidery and appliqued house numbers, representing spaces in which love is shared. The watering can shows a bottle of clove oil, which is used to euthanize dying fish. It is symbolic of how the smallest acts of love, even for the smallest of creatures, still have incredible meaning. Slow processes of embroidery emphasize the timeline of a loving relationship, how it must be built up over time. Second-hand materials from various sources have been combined to create a visual inspired by human connection.
