San Hu
BIO
San Hu is a furniture designer living in Mississauga. Born in Foshan, China, she moved to Hamilton in 2015 to continue her education. Her personal experiences and cultural background have built a deep connection with emotions, dreams and memories. San’s inspiration often comes from journaling and self-reflection. Through the approach of “form follows concept,” she designs and makes furniture that reinterprets its emotional purpose in contemporary living spaces, encouraging sensitivity and empathy in the way one lives and relates to others. Her work often features geometric, repetitive patterns and cool tones.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
HIDE, AWAY
"hide, away" is a collection of armor-inspired furnishings that evoke mental security and safety. San reinterprets emotional comfort through an autoethnographic study, transforming psychological defense mechanisms into physical forms. These pieces establish personal boundaries at home, making the space feel even safer. Together, they build a protective and intimate hideaway, where one can escape from reality.
