CAPSTONE PROJECT
STITCH DIARY
My capstone explores my experiences and emotions through embroidery. My process includes using sketching and embroidery as meditative practices to work through feelings of anxiety, depression and dissociation.
I work with white linen and black embroidery floss to create detailed embroidery pieces. I also use printing techniques and preserved plant material to bring depth and colour to my work.
The project includes three pieces all of which include running stitch, back stitch and couched thread. The large centrepiece speaks to my anxiety and the feeling of being watched. The magnolia piece represents depression and feeling a sense of relief through nature. Finally the leaf wave piece is dedicated to my nonna and contains a message written in morse code as the background of the piece.
