Amanda Silvestre
BIO
My name is Amanda Silvestre, and I am a Portuguese-Canadian Artist born in Mississauga, Ontario. My whole life I have been a creator, as a child I was constantly drawing and painting, working with any medium I could and moving on quickly from one to another once I got bored. Both my parents are extremely creative and handy as well, and encouraged me to express myself through craft.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
SAUDADE
My body of work consists of hand-built vessels of various sizes and shapes, textured using tools and slips, then sprayed with layers of oxides and glazes before being fired in atmospheric reduction kilns.
I decorated my pieces using color palettes drawn from nature, and tend to favor textured surfaces to create a tactile experience for viewers.
I've always felt a pull to nature, more specifically the appearance of aged trees and bark, or even the effects that nature has on man-made things like rusted metal and oxidized copper.
Art is an ever-changing journey, and I learn something new with each piece I create. While change can be hard, I welcome it with open arms and look forward to growth.
