CAPSTONE PROJECT
I HATE IT HERE
This capstone project explores the role of ornamentation, pattern, and materiality in contemporary furniture design, pushing back against the modernist rejection of decoration as unnecessary excess. Drawing from personal memory and visual influences rooted in South Asian culture, the work reclaims intricate patterning as a meaningful design language. By bringing together minimal forms and expressive ornament, the final piece aims to create an object that reflects the experiences of being unseen as a maker of colour in the broader conversations around design ideology, cultural memory, and the place of ornament within contemporary design practice.
