CAPSTONE PROJECT
PHAEODERM
Phaeoderm is a medical wrap that helps accelerate the healing of dryness and lesions caused by atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. People with these conditions are often recommended a variety of diet changes and creams. This is often laborious and discouraging. Phaeoderm was designed with this frustration in mind. It is easily integrated in this trial and error and provide reliable symptom relief. The design process centered the development of an alginate-based zinc oxide solution which can be used to form solid filament or treat other fibres. These filaments were interwoven with coated silk to create a textile that holds moisture onto dry, irritated skin, and drys out weeping lesions to facilitate healing.
