Ivy Hills
BIO
Ivy Hills is a ceramic artist from Stouffville, ON. She creates hand-built vessels and sculptures that project her thoughts and emotions. Each piece created is decorated with bright and expressive surface decoration that explores personal narratives from her life. She often explores themes of femininity through an unfiltered lens. Ivy began studying ceramics at Fleming College in Haliburton, ON, before pursuing her bachelor's degree in ceramics at Sheridan College.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
STUCK, HOLDING MY TUMMY
When I was 9, I was afraid of my elementary school's fire alarm. I would miss school because the anticipation of our monthly fire drill would make me throw up. I still struggle with my anxiety. This body of work is a personal narrative that explores the pressure I've been feeling this year and the barriers I put up for myself. I create sculptures with bright, expressive surface decoration inspired by my life. The pinched figures I create are a direct window into my mind. They often instill humor as a way to portray my emotions and expressions.
