Abigayle Labas
BIO
My name is Abigayle Labas, and I am one of my parent's five children. As a child, I was always interested in sewing. When I was ten years old, I had asked my maternal grandmother to teach me how to sew. The first sewing machine I learned to sew on was my great-grandmother's sewing machine; as I got older, not for a moment did I think of sewing as a profession but rather a hobby which is why I never thought of pursuing sewing in post-secondary or as my career until now.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
CONNECTING ROOTS
Using my own family history, family ties, and connecting roots I will be making two wall-hanging quilts connected to one another. The quilts will portray a tree that is incomplete without the other half, one half will be the quilt based on my father and his history and the other quilt will be based on my mother’s history and how their roots came together into one entity. Within each quilt, I will include textures and symbols that are meaningful and important within our family history creating a story.
