BIO
Heather Annette Phillips is a sculptural artist working in the medium of glass. Born and raised in Toronto Canada, she completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto before entering the world of glass fabrication with a certificate in glassblowing from Haliburton School of Art and Design, Fleming College in 2018. Heather has spent time during her Honours Bachelor of Craft and Design at Sheridan College exploring the idea of using kiln casting to translate the image of fabric into glass. She works with the themes of body language imprinted on clothing, and universal emotions. Commencing in the fall of 2022, she will continue to refine her body of work at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University, while completing her Master of Fine Arts.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
FROM WITHIN
Heather’s capstone project explores the idea of interpreting body language through the impact a person’s emotions, movements and posture have on their clothing. She creates hollow kiln cast glass sculptures of fabric, completely omitting the body within. This invites the viewer to connect with the emotion portrayed by the fabric and form, reflecting on their own experiences, conveyed to them through the image of the everyman.
