Vesper Phillips
BIO
Vesper Phillips is a woodworker in Oakville, ON. Their capstone project gives physical form to the exhaustion and disorientation of dealing with ADHD in their daily life.
Creating this surreal and dysfunctional work required extensive use of traditional woodworking hand tools, and they are looking forward to spending more time learning how to use these tools to their greatest effect in future work.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
DE-COMPOSED
My capstone project is fueled by the ADHD-related difficulties that I encounter as I go about my day. They often feel mysterious to me, even if I’ve experienced them hundreds of times before. They can be tough to spot until they’ve already tripped me up, and certain ones are likely so ubiquitous that they no longer register as problems.
For this project, I started off by observing my daily life in order to demystify these low points, these moments of friction. I then attempted to capture the key elements of the issues that define my daily experience in a visually engaging form. The result is a set of two dysfunctional entryway tables inspired by the sense of "disintegration" or "decay" that I deal with as the day progresses.
