BIO
Nicole Ruiz is a textile based artist from Toronto, Ontario. Her work is influenced by her surroundings and lived experiences, drawing inspiration from nature, people, and moments in time. Nicole's practice explores personal thoughts and feelings through material, technique, and surface design.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
EARTH AND BODY
Focusing on nature and body as inspiration, subject matter, and material -- I aim to give thanks and celebrate nature through this work. This project has been a reflection of myself existing in the context of my environment and explores the connection I feel with nature. Earth and Body embodies these collective feelings and displays them in a physical form to be experienced by others. The collages are made with a combination of materials and techniques, including photography, handmade paper elements, breakdown printing, screen printing, digital printing, and applique. To me, collages feel very narrative—the way these elements are collected and assembled together to create an image and tell a story. It feels like a fitting way to tell the story of Earth and Body.
