YUE XING
BIO
Yue Xing started working with clay in the Craft and Design program at Sheridan. She comes from the Northeast of China, her hometown is dry and cold during very long winters. There is a rebellious motive in her work, she makes functional vessels that are anti-human, or no longer functional. Instead of serving humans, those works want to escape from their utility and be mischievous.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
CLAY, TEXTURE AND COLOUR
I believe clay presents a contrast between moments of control and unpredictability. To avoid the pressure of detailed planning and release negative emotions, I follow my intuition while making. Coincidence plays a role in my creative process. I love the feeling of touching clay with my hands and changing its shape spontaneously. I enjoy leaving marks into the soft clay. These marks record my actions, and after firing, become permanent.
