Betsy Pelletier
BIO
Betsy Pelletier is a textile artist whose creative journey is deeply rooted in the realm of second-hand, natural fiber materials. Inspired by the beauty found in the ordinary and mundane aspects of life, Pelletier’s work reimagines the potential of forgotten objects and materials.
Drawing from a rich inventory of textures, colours, and ephemera, Pelletier transforms forgotten objects into complex expressions of artistry. Her unique approach breathes new life into discarded materials, inviting viewers to reconsider the potential of materials often relegated to obscurity.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
RELIQUIAE
At its root, Reliquiae is about revival; of material, memories, stories and emotions. This project stemmed from a desire to make my practice as sustainable as possible. To me, sustainability refers to the preservation and mindful use of materials and energy in every aspect of life.
Throughout the creation of Reliquiae, I drew from an inventory of second-hand textiles, disparate ephemera, past work and personal photography. This piece is as much about the process of discovering or rediscovering the materials as it is about the materials themselves. Through happenstance, these ideas and objects have been able to come together into a single garment—a wearable reliquary. This garment represents an ongoing body of work and a commitment to using only second-hand materials for all future craft and design projects.
