CAPSTONE PROJECT
SÙ
“Sù" is a sculptural chair that embodies the intersection of contemporary art and functional design. Inspired by Shibari, a Japanese art of rope bondage, the chair takes its name from the Pinyin of the Chinese character Shù (束), and combines it with two of the main elements of shibari, "suspension" and "submission". It transcends the role of furniture to become a statement piece. It not only uses shibari techniques to create the structure of the seat but also incorporates the philosophical and aesthetic essence of shibari into the design elements. A fusion of art and utility, "Sù" is a unique attempt to explore how cultural techniques can inspire and transform functional objects into expressive, interactive sculptural art.
