Ciara Rieder
BIO
Ciara Rieder was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey and spent the first months of her life, living in Allendale, New Jersey before finally settling in Oakville, Ontario and that's where she has been since. As a kid, her mom encouraged various forms of the arts from a young age, as she could see, that's what Ciara gravitated to. This helped her strengthen her artistic abilities, which as she got older showed her what she was really passionate about. Most of which she still practices in conjunction with ceramics, however she didn't start sculpting till she was in high school, which led her to ceramics at Sheridan College. Outside of the arts, she has grown up going to her family's cottage, camping, swimming and traveling. Her love of nature plays a huge role in her inspiration and her work.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
WONDER IMAGINE EXPLORE
My work combines botany elements, feminine characters and animals depicted in a fun, light hearted, whimsical, imaginative and playful manner. All are presented on half, full relief sculptural, coloured, intricate platters/smaller plate bases, with fine details that make you stop and stare at them, while taking in all they have to offer. My pieces also delve into memories, and how random reminders cause them to come rushing back to us. My work also pinpoints whimsical, light hearted moments of our natural world combined with childhood storybook nostalgia. and picture book-like imagery.
