Alyssa Laffrenier
BIO
Alyssa Laffrenier is a Ceramic artist currently living and working in the GTA surrounded by fellow friends & makers. Inspired by the narratives we create, and how the stories we tell warp our reality she works in clay to make those fleeting moments permanent, locked in time. As a devoted philosopher she spends much of her time trying to push how many layers of meaning she can add before it becomes too much. She hasn't found the answer.

FIELD NOTES FROM A YEAR OF DEVOTION: REMAINS TO BE SEEN
I am fascinated with the permanence of ceramic, this story will outlive me even if it's never found. I use processes that are concerned with evidence. Granting the ability to look at something and extrapolate the steps taken to get there, so that in some way my hands, are found in everything. The evidence of me, my voice, my hands, my stories. I work in sculpture to capture the moments just before, and just after something transcendent. To capture the moment itself would be incomplete. Objects contain memory, and there exists a series of perfect actions one can take to retrieve them. I'm walking forward because that's all I can do, and someone, somewhere, somewhen is looking for me. One day someone might uncover all the layers of truth laid bare for them to find. I'm having a conversation with them, I'm telling them this story.
