BIO

Born and raised in a small town near Bogotá, Colombia, my childhood in Sopó gave me a perspective of community and identity. The long walks in the mountains, accompanied by my cousins, imprinted my delight for contemplation. As a teenager, I moved to Bogotá, which sparked my fascination with cultural and artistic expression and later led to the opportunity to graduate and work as an industrial designer. At the same time, I had the joy of participating in several missionary trips that allowed me to discover the great richness of my country and connect with nature in a very meaningful way. As an adult, I settled in Canada, where we defined our meaning of family and raised our three children with my partner. Canada allowed me to learn a new language and connect with people from multiple cultures around the world, each full of history, community and their own interpretation of life and aesthetics. I plan to continue contemplating others, the exuberant world that embraces us, and the art our hands produce as a continuum of that exuberance.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

PROVERBS 3:19-20

Using the elemental material of the earth, clay textures, and direct forms of association, I explore the idea of balance and rhythm between the natural world and human-made objects. Through a methodology I have come to call syntropic design, I aim to create pieces that transcend mere objecthood by embodying the redundancy and synchronization of natural forms. Above all, I aim to create pieces that stimulate the sense of wonder through their harmonious exuberance.

My methodology draws on memories of moments spent contemplating our natural environment. I capture, in the form of a collage, the amalgamation of parts, systems, and elements that interact and coexist, supporting one another to ensure their survival. Each piece tends to evoke a specific place, translated into colours, lines, and textures, narrated through impressions in clay.
