CAPSTONE PROJECT
YUYI 羽翳
When the mountain spirit “E” leaves his dwelling and enters the human world, he mistakes himself for one of the yǔ rén described in Shānhǎijīng, believing that he simply has not grown wings yet.
He moves through history, searching for traces of the yǔ rén in Qin bricks and Han tiles, and in the paintings and writings of the Wei and Jin periods. Later, he turns to collecting bird related totems from different eras. The more he collects, the further he deviates from the yǔ rén, and the more he begins to doubt his own identity.
When the idea of “angels” appears, he realizes that he was mistaken. Dressed in elaborate clothing, he has forgotten his original dwelling.
For now, he only wants to stop somewhere, remain still, and look back at the people and things he neglected during the time when he devoted himself to the pursuit of “feathers.”
