CAPSTONE PROJECT
STERILE GRIP
A wide range of bacteria cause people to get sick in everyday life, and they are usually infected in two ways: through airborne or skin contact. Germs can linger in the air and on objects and our hands are the "bridge" between the human body and germs since we often use germ-infested hands to touch our eyes or eat food unintentionally, which could lead bacteria to enter the body and causes us to get sick. A door handle is an object that we frequently touch, and there are many potential bacteria that may be left on its surface. Therefore, I'm going to design a touchless tool that helps reduce the risk of people getting sick by touching germs and bacteria were left on the door handle.

Dahri Koopman is a textile artist who works with different stitch and print techniques. Their style is often evolving and not bound to one style. Their current art practice focuses on themes of trauma and healing and they hope that their art can give others who have been through similar situations that they are not alone and that there is no one right way of healing.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
I'M FINE
I’m Fine (but please don’t look through the gaps in my armor) is two interconnecting pieces that represent the artists healing process through sexual assault trauma. The first layer is machine stitched threads onto dissolvable fabric to create a lace-like cobweb of threads with various densities. Behind the threads is a quilted piece made of cyanotypes and screen prints with various images of organs, hands, and the body. The screenprinted images mimic the style of the cyanotype as a way to represent the feeling of desperation the artist often experienced within their healing journey when they felt like they had to return back to “normal” to be healed.

I am a student graduated from the Craft and Design Program at Sheridan College, with a major in ceramics. In this program, I have been given the opportunity to explore various ceramic techniques and crafts, learning how to design and create unique ceramic pieces. My love for ceramics comes from my exploration of life, where I enjoy capturing joyful moments and experimenting with different ceramic techniques. Through the process of exploring ceramics, I have come to recognize my weaknesses, accepting them and becoming a better person.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
BUILD MY SKETCHBOOK
My current project is about my sketchbook. To me, a sketchbook is a journal of the artist’s life, recording ideas, feelings, and stories that happen in daily life. To me, these things in my sketchbook are precious memories. Making these memories with clay, turning them from Illusory concepts into clay objects, allows me to transfer my journal into my work in ceramics. I enjoy seeing my doodles from my sketchbook becoming the surface of my ceramic ware. The ink-drawing style, black and white, dot and line, and the finished, fired pages communicate how I use drawing and illustration to express my ideas, thoughts, and feelings personally. Clay allows those elements to escape the 2-dimensional paper surface, into a new type of space, through underglaze, slip, glaze, and low-relief surfaces. I am creating a new type of sketchbook to contain my ideas.

Bram Locknick
BIO
Bram Locknick is an artist and sculptor who works primarily with kiln formed and blown glass. Being from Windsor Ontario he was inspired at an early age by the figures of the towering Detroit skyline. With a background in philosophy he follows his curious instincts in order to develop conceptual work and translate those concepts into glass. Driven by an urge to make, his artwork and design is pursuant of knowledge and process that translates concepts and experience into sculptural artworks.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
FORM
Forms have qualities and parts; my work focuses on treating those qualities as components that can be modified and manipulated to create sculpture. With a focus on abstract minimalist geometric form, using it as a set of lines and surfaces, and subtractive processes to derive sculptures. Using glass with this concept is ideal given its castable and malleable qualities, allowing me to create sculptures that emphasize the materials volumetric and optical characteristics.

Wenhe Lu
BIO
Wenhe Lu is a glass sculpture artist. She was born and raised in China and moved to South Africa to live during high school. Then she entered Sheridan College's Craft and Design program in 2019 and received her bachelor's degree in 2023. There she majored in glass casting, and her work utilizes twisted human organs to create surrealist glass sculptures. Her work is full of metaphors for contemporary society, and Wenhe will continue to use her skills to create her work.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
DYSTOPIAN, ANXIETY, DREAD
I use the metaphor of a dystopian future to explore the pervasive anxiety and negative effects of modern society. Through the representation of the five senses, my surrealist sculptures challenge common perceptions and provoke emotions in the viewer. Anxiety is a complex and ever-present force that shapes our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, and my art seeks to reflect this complexity. By exploring the intersection between anxiety and the dystopian future, I invite viewers to reflect on their own fears and the collective anxieties that define our time. Through my work, I hope to encourage dialogue and promote a deeper understanding of the complexities of contemporary society.

Kayleigh Marshall
BIO
Kayleigh is a textile artist and cosplayer born in Ontario, Canada. How her interest in textiles developed was a bit of a roller coaster ride. When she finished high school she initially went into engineering because she had an interest in science and making things. Over the course of four years she switched between different engineering streams trying to find a topic she enjoyed. In late 2018 she was diagnosed with lupus. It was this that forced her to slow her life down and take a look at things in a different way. During this time she realized engineering was not something that was going to make her happy in the long run, so she started looking at programs way outside of what she knew. This combined with her newly discovered love of costuming led her to the Textile program at Sheridan College. She immediately fell in love with the program. This project is the culmination of her journey to find her place in our world.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
FINGERPRINT OF THE EARTH
Fingerprint of the Earth is a textile piece exploring the similarities between rock and fabric. In our world there is a process happening right beneath our feet known as geologic folding. Tectonic plates floating on magma crash into each other with a huge amount of force. This force is enough to bend even rocks. The result of this process are rocks containing beautiful patterns and layers. This folding in the rocks can be mimicked using folding of fabric. Geologic folding is a process that most people are unaware of. The purpose of this project is to bring attention to this force of nature that is changing our planet every day. These two things that seem so different at a glance, may not actually be that different at all.

BIO
Daniel Mercier is a GTA-based furniture maker and sculptor. His work focuses on the materiality of wood and working with natural imperfections to create unique sculptures. The purpose of his focus on materiality is to establish his relationship with wood and give each of his pieces a unique individuality. Daniel is interested in the process of transformation and how it relates to the human experience.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
PROGENITOR
My work explores the process of transformation through contrasting lines, line qualities, and textures. The contrasting elements symbolize the contrast between certain & uncertain, clear & obscure, that exist within the process of transformation. The reclaimed materials highlight the unique process of transformation from person to person as each has its own unique qualities and interventions. The handwork used to create the recesses further highlights the contrast that exists within each piece as every other element is created using machines. The handwork also establishes and builds my relationship with each piece as it is a more direct way of interacting with the material than with machines.

Natalie Nasrallah
BIO
Natalie Nasrallah is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist and digital designer. She is a recent graduate from the Bachelor of Crafts & Design program at Sheridan College (2023). Her most recent work is her capstone project the sweet escape. She bases her work on the topic of mental health and focusses on a way to create fun, whimsical, nostalgic art and designs. As a recent graduate, Natalie hopes to continue researching colour psychology and playing around with different mediums in her practice. She plans to continue to research the physical and mental impact of marrying different textures with one another.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
THE SWEET ESCAPE
"the sweet escape” by Natalie Nasrallah is a series of wall-hangings that touch the idea of a “happy place” when in mental distress. Natalie’s “happy place” is a meadow that she thinks of (escapes to) whenever dealing with her anxiety and depression.
This perception of a meadow is inspired by Porter Robinson’s Nurture album art. The Nurture vinyl sits on a floating shelf in Natalie’s living room. She looks at it every day and wishes she can be transported to a place as peaceful as that album cover.
the sweet escape is created with a colour palette based on research in colour psychology. These colours are shown to trigger positive feelings, thoughts, and emotions. She uses sewing techniques such as quilting and patching to emphasize the feeling of safety in this meadow. Through the sweet escape, Natalie hopes that viewers can feel comfort and peace.

CAPSTONE PROJECT
FLIPPERS AND FLORALS
This wall hanging explores my happy memories on both the East and West coasts of Canada. I use photographs I took of flowers during the summers I spent working in the Halifax Public Gardens as well as flowers I saw in Vancouver this past summer.
I also include seal imagery as I was always fascinated by the seals in Nova Scotia and even more excited when I saw Vancouver had seals as well. My project explores the cycle of life of these elements. Flowers bloom and die as seasons pass but these photographs hold the perfect memory of each of their short lives.
Digitally printed images of the flowers are printed on fabric and structured with wire. They were then combined with large naturally dyed fabric stuffed seals: two mothers and two pups. All elements are thoughtfully appliquéd to a hand manipulated background which gives an illusion of a fantasy world.
